Can I use an ISBN for a book that isn't in English?

Yes. Your ISBN works for a book in any language, but the title and subtitle can only use characters Bookwire supports: standard Latin letters and common accented letters, such as é, ñ and ü.

If your title or subtitle uses a non-Latin script, such as Cyrillic, or a less common accented letter, such as ł, ș or ā, Bookwire can't list your book. Your book's page in the portal shows Inactive (Unsupported Characters), and we hold the registration until the title is in Latin characters. Your ISBN stays valid.

We offer transliteration: we write your title in Latin characters so Bookwire can list it. To ask for it, contact us through the help widget.
