Ethical Guidelines
Most ISBNs assigned by the ISBNdirect platform are registered under Staten House, our publishing imprint. Because Staten House is the publisher on record, we have a responsibility to uphold standards for the content published under its name.
We support a wide range of voices, topics, and perspectives. That said, we reserve the right to refuse or revoke ISBN registration for content that falls into the following categories:
1. Hate Speech and Discriminatory Content
Content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or intolerance targeting individuals or groups based on their identity, beliefs, or background.
2. Explicit or Gratuitously Offensive Material
Content containing explicit adult material or gratuitous violence that exists primarily to shock or offend rather than serve a narrative or educational purpose.
3. Plagiarized or Copyright-Infringing Content
Content that copies or reproduces the work of others without permission or proper attribution.
4. Misinformation
Content that deliberately presents false information as fact, particularly on topics related to health, safety, or public welfare.
5. Scams and Fraudulent Content
Content designed to deceive readers, promote fraudulent schemes, or facilitate illegal activity.
6. Libelous or Defamatory Content
Content that makes false statements intended to damage the reputation of a specific individual or organization.
7. Dangerous or Harmful Advice
Content that provides instructions or guidance that could directly endanger a reader's physical or mental well-being.
8. Extremist or Radical Ideologies
Content that promotes violence, terrorism, or ideologies intended to incite harm against others.
These guidelines exist to protect readers, authors, and the integrity of the Staten House imprint. If you have questions about whether your content falls within these guidelines, reach out to us.
